The fitness mat:
Everyone knows that exercise is one of the best habits for your health. It protects your heart and body against diseases, stimulates energy, and concentration. In addition, regular exercise slows down the aging process.
But not everyone has the means, time, or motivation to go to the gym. As I write this article, it is even worse, since we are in quarantine because of COVID-19. Following a sports program at home is a great way to achieve this goal.
But for some goals, it is better to buy a fitness mat, whether it is a model for yoga, fitness, CrossFit, or weight training.

Why equip yourself with a fitness mat?
There are several reasons for this, which we will try to detail.
1. To protect the floor from shocks and rubbing :
For certain physical exercises, the floor can be put to a lot of strain. This is the case for almost all surfaces that will be subjected to repetitive movements or shocks. For example, if you do weight training or cross-fitting, even with resistance bands, you will soon see your tiles or floor deteriorate. A dumbbell placed a little too hard, and it's a disaster waiting to happen...
The same applies if you want to use a weight bench or any other kind of equipment to build up your muscles. You absolutely must put something underneath, unless your floor is concrete. Because your equipment is bound to move a little bit and mark your floor.
So it's best to workout with a good, thick, heavy-duty mat. Not a cheap model to do a few push-ups on, but a nice mat made of a material that can withstand any kind of stress.
2. Improve the quality of your workouts :
Doing yoga or gymnastics on an uncomfortable surface will not encourage you to work out. In addition, it can be dangerous to do fitness, CrossFit, or weight training session on a hard, slippery surface. And it's even worse when you sweat.
At the same time, you won't solve the problem with most fitness mats on the market. They are either of poor quality, not thick enough, or too expensive...
Not to mention the models I've tried that slide with every movement.

3. Protect your joints with an adapted fitness mat :
A fitness mat also aims to improve your training comfort. This is especially true for those who practice yoga, gymnastics, or bodyweight training for certain exercises. Indeed, these trainings require a permanent contact with the ground.
You need to protect your joints when doing exercises such as mountain climbers, burpees, skipping rope, etc. Try the plank on a suitable mat and on the tiled floor, you will soon feel the difference in your elbows.
For bodyweight training, for example, you should choose a floor mat that is comfortable, thick enough, and long enough for certain positions. Indeed, having tested many mats, I have often noticed that when I do abdominal exercises such as the plank position, my elbows hurt because the mat is not thick enough.
It's quite annoying and uncomfortable, I assure you.
So you need to choose a mat that is suitable for your sport, gentle on your joints and durable. However, it shouldn't be so thick and soft that it interferes with your balance and stability. It's not so easy to find the right mat...
4. It's more hygienic :
Well, imagine the bacteriological state of your carpet or living room rug if you practice on it. I wouldn't recommend taking out your microscopes, you'll cry.
A weight training or yoga mat will not be spared, of course! But it is easier to clean and disinfect it than a whole room or your carpet. Especially after a sweaty workout...
The carpet I'm going to introduce you to right afterward is extremely easy to clean. For mine, it's a sweep in the morning and a little white vinegar water after a sweaty training.
